The world looks different on my side of the map, there’s gravel runnin’ under your wheels.

You never think you’ll make it back to a four lane road.

On my side of town there’s honky-tonks– killin’ everything you feel

There’s no straight shot to the blacktop – not for me.

North of forty – it’s hard to believe I found my way like some fallin’ leaf,

Blowing on backroads, caught on a breeze, mile posts flyin’ forty-one, two, three.

No one thought I’d make it – not even me.

Well the Devil’s after me since I was a kid, no sense telling a lie,

This heart on my sleeve hid by ink I’ve outgrown.

I seem to find all the losing kind, lined up on long empty nights.
